"I bolted on a weekend with DucatiTours to the half-term family break, and looked forward to riding some of the best bikes in the world on their home turf. I was not disappointed. In fact, I soon realised I was not just getting a tour guide and a bike, but a complete 4 day package of biking, adventure, and entertainment.
Pulling out of the garage exit onto an old downtown cobbled street in Lucca on a brand new Ducati, you had to grin as you realised if they were to make "The Italian Job" on bikes, this is exactly what it would look like! Hundreds of kilometres later with a head full of rolling Tuscan landscape, Cypress trees, terracotta rooftops, and the unmistakable sounds of Ducati engines still ringing in your ears, I knew this weekend was up there in my top 5 holiday breaks ever.
It goes without saying that the stars of the weekend were the bikes, but the tour guide, Joe Charity deserves credit. Nothing too much trouble, and going out of his way to make your weekend exactly what you hoped it would be. From hotel transfers, to meals out and free taxiing around Lucca, Joe ensured that the weekend as a whole was as enjoyable and hassle-free as riding his gorgeous bikes.
If you are a Ducati owner, you don't need to be told how great the bikes are...but you will be living and breathing Ducati all weekend with fellow Ducati riders, including a visit to where these beauties are lovingly assembled. If you are new to Ducati bikes a word of warning, you will find a new love and won't bear to be parted - six hours after my flight landed I was at the nearest Ducati dealer ordering a new 07 Multistrada. I politely pointed out a test ride won't be necessary!
Rarely these days do you buy a product and get much more than you expected, this tour was a refreshing change in that respect and many others.
