Martin & Bev T - Aveley GB (April 2007)
"Do yourself a big favour and DO NOT book one of these trips!! If you do then you will be left with the same dilemma as I am, how can I afford to buy a 1098!!!! I am not sure if eBay support the selling of body organs but I will give it a go, I think 2 kidneys are over-rated anyway.
On a serious note, this has to rate as the best holiday I have ever had. It is a pleasant change to get MORE than you pay for, the selection of bikes, fantastic roads and more than attentive members of the team (Joe and Jamie) made this an experience to remember. I could waffle for page upon page on how the winding roads and hairpins in Italy both test and reward you, how the nice soft tyres that feel like they heat up in a matter of miles keep you firmly on the roads and also how the scenery can change from coastal to country to mountain snow in just one days riding but I won’t because it will not do DucatiTours justice. Whether you’re an all year rounder, summer or weekend rider, the ride outs cater for all. No one gets left behind or made to feel they cannot keep up. If you do not like the bike you are on, then the chances are you can swap with another rider whilst out and about, if the ride ever feels too fast then the rule is everyone stays on the road and the front group will always wait at the next junction for everyone to catch up. There is no “I’m better than you” mentality from any rider because at the end of the day Joe or Jamie set the pace and as they ride these roads day in day out this kind of puts them at the top of the pile. With the exception of 1 day, every ride was two up for me and Bev so if we can keep up with the group then so can you.
If you get a chance to go to the Ducati factory, do it. When they say it’s a tour on the production line, it’s not from behind a window that you view but you actually walk on the shop floor surrounded by engines, frames, complete RR’s!!! Couple this with the museum upstairs with the Foggy and Bayliss winning bikes then what else can you ask for.
One thing I would suggest you do is to get either Joe or Jamie to follow you for a few miles to get their suggestions on your riding style. I did and it was pointed out that I was tipping in too early on the corners thus screwing most of them up. After a quick chat I tucked in behind Joe for a very quick and smooth afternoons riding. You can never learn too much!!!
Finally, a big thank you to Joe and Jamie and to the rest of the group, I’m sure it will not be the last time we all meet up in Italy. Also a big thanks to Bev, who booked all this up as a surprise present for me, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
PS. If anyone is interested in a kidney, reasonable condition etc let me know soon, these don’t keep fresh for long and the fridge is starting to smell!!"
