"Well here I am after my second tour of Italy with Joe and wondering how I am going to return to normal life and riding. I think this must be the same feeling and addiction skiers have after a Heli Ski Trip. You wonder to yourself “How am I going to enjoy riding normally back home?”
Last year I wrote the David’s (Chambers not Letterman) Top Ten List of why people should choose DucatiTours. Here is my 2008 updated version.
1. Gabriele and the fabulous Castle Bigozzi. I have never enjoyed a stay more and would recommend this spot even if you are not on a bike tour.
2. The new accommodations Joe has found for us to stay in. Hard to believe he could top last year however he has.
3. The private courtyard dinners are a real treat after a day’s riding. Hit the pool, have a few beers, then walk right out to dinner after you shower up. That is a treat.
4. The new bikes Joe has added to his fleet. Monster, Hypermotard, 848’s. Where else would you be able to try out everything Ducati has to offer and get a feel how they really perform.
5. Jamie’s in depth knowledge of the local history. Just kidding! what Jamie is famous for is his wheelies! They were amazing. Full straight away 100 K 3rd gear. Wish I could do that.
6. Watching one of my buddies who considered himself a novice rider develop after a week of blasting around turns was very gratifying. No doubt it would have taken him three years of riding at home to reach this level.
7. Giving new meaning to my “I’m not dead yet” t-shirt after a close call with a Mercedes. If that doesn’t get your blood pumping I am not sure what does.
8. The never ending twists and turns with smooth, clean, pavement. I could ride them every day and never tire of them.
9. Being able to take Gloria on the back and share the excitement of blasting through traffic in the streets of Florence.
10. Joe’s jokes. “Not” They still suck and it is a good thing he is such a capable tour guide or he would be out of work if he had to rely on them!
Last year my goal was to bring friends back to share this amazing trip with. It was great to have them all along and judging by the smiles at the end of each day they enjoyed it as much as I did. One of these days I would like to bring my kids over to try this out. I think sharing it with family could be the only thing that could top sharing it with friends. Now I have to see if I can resist the urge to head back this fall to join Joe in Spain for a new tour he is adding to his itineraries."
